Hello and Welcome!

Hi! So glad you dropped by new blog.

I'm Jacqueline the creator of Buzz and Poppy Sewing Patterns.

Most days I can be found in my sewing room in rural Ontario alternately sewing, daydreaming, sewing, indulging in chocolate and sewing some more while wearing woolly socks no matter the weather.

When not sewing I have a fondness for the crooning of Diana Krall and Adele mixed in with a bit of U2 and Van Morrison, watching British TV shows -Coronation Street, Downton Abbey, Father Brown - and falling asleep while reading a Jane Austin novel.

So, why do I sew?

My first stitches were sewn at age 11 under the tutelage of the Sisters of Mercy. As a child I lived in the small Irish town of Navan and attended St. Joseph's where needlepoint was then considered just as important to a girl's education as prayer, reading, writing and math.

I remember sitting in the school room trying to make the stitches on my first project - an apron - neat and all the same length. I absolutely loved the apron's fabric – a purple paisley cotton. A special trip was made to a Dublin department store to buy the fabric. Since then I have loved sewing and hoarding fabric!

Another childhood love

Over time I have sewn everything from clothes to softies to quilts - with varying degrees of success! But no matter the result, I have kept sewing simply because it makes me and the recipients of my creations happy.

And – to be honest - as the mother of two very noisy, active and messy (God bless – I love them so much) boys I find that sewing for a while - even a few minutes a day - creates a small oasis of calm in my hectic life.

And just who are Buzz and Poppy?

They were my pet birds - a pair of white, Muscovy ducks.
I adopted those quirky fowl and a rather grumpy goose to keep my rescue pheasant company. That odd little menagerie started when my husband, just home from work one day, said he had a present for me. Yay! I followed him out to the car, where he opened the trunk and presented me with a mangled heap of brown feathers – a run over pheasant. Hmmm. But no matter, our pet fowl and their funny antics gave many a happy chuckle to us over the years.

The original Buzz and Poppy

Well, thanks for your company today. Currently I'm working on my next softie pattern and when that is finished I will post a cute free felt craft pattern for you all to enjoy stitching. Drop by again sometime!

Till my next musings on sewing, life with boys and other happy things -

Z z Z Z z.....Sleepy Teddies

"There were 10 in a bed and the little one said "Roll over, roll over"....

My children and I love singing this nursery rhyme together. As with this rhyme, many of my pattern ideas come either from my children and their joyous young lives or my own childhood.

These three teddies tucked into bed remind me of how my boys dash to my bed during nighttime thunderstorms for a cuddle of reassurance and then fall back to sleep almost immediately leaving me squished between them, wide awake and listening to their snores!

The teddies and their bed are easy to sew and can be made from whatever felt and cotton you have to hand. After the teddies have been tucked into bed, the bed folds up into a little ‘book’ with a felt and Velcro closure making it a perfect take along toy for little ones.

I hope you will enjoy sewing this pattern as much as I have enjoyed creating it.

Sew happiness!
